The kelp people bid you warm welcome, as do I, to the first Undefunktis release: two four-on-the-floor Goa trance tracks in an old-school, acidy nineties style (and with a touch of melody).
These two tracks, while not my first, were my first attempts at producing straight-up, honest-to-goodness, no foolin' around analog-flavored nineties-style Goa trance. I produced them over a six week period in early summer 2022. Like many during the pandemic, I finally had the opportunity and, for whatever reason, the motivation to have a serious go at making music. In my case, the music-making stars aligned and shone from the deep winter darkness of December 2020. It wasn't until about a year and a half later, however, that I felt ready to take on Goa trance, and these tracks are the result.
Here's what I've learned since December 2020:
- Making music is easy. Making good music is hard.
- Making Goa trance is hard. Making good Goa trance is super hard.
Since my first exposure to it in 1996, I've had a deep, deep love for psychedelic trance. But let me tell you, I have a whole new respect for the trailblazers in the genre that were not only bending hardware synthesizers to do seriously amazing things, but also recording, mixing, and mastering it with the gear that was available at the time. There's a reason that stuff sounds amazing - they had to really, really, _really_ want to make it. And since not every rando like me could easily publish their stuff to a website used by millions of people every day _for free_, their music had to be good enough for someone to decide it was worth pressing to wax or burning on CD.
This is my modest attempt to make something I love, and I learned a ton having a go at it. I hope you get a kick out of it, too.
In the wise words of Blue Room Released: PLAY LOUD.

Thanks to Colin Bennun for putting up with the new guy. Thanks to Seb Taylor (sebtaylor.bandcamp.com) for making Silicon Trip which heavily influenced (like, super heavily influenced) Mood Elevator. Thanks also to DJ Docktopus and llexam for their patient, critical ears and honest, detailed feedback. Thanks to Umptanum for the doot-doot. Extra special thanks to D-Train for the squeezy-feets (which, let's be honest, were the real keys to making this possible).
